Grease debuted on Harmony of the Seas when the ship launched in 2016 and ran continuously for years until Royal Caribbean retired the license ahead of the ship's upcoming amplification. During that time it became the benchmark Broadway production in the Royal Caribbean fleet, and the reviews from Cruise Critic, Royal Caribbean Blog, and passengers who sailed Harmony repeatedly reflect a consistent consensus: this was the show that made the Royal Theater on Harmony worth talking about.

The production

Royal Caribbean staged Grease in full, not as a highlights package or an abridged version. Every major number is there. The story runs its complete arc from the opening sequence through to You're The One That I Want at the finale, with a cast that Royal Caribbean specifically selected for broad appeal across generations. The show tends to hit hardest for audiences who know the material, which on most Harmony sailings is a significant portion of the house.

The Royal Theater on Harmony seats 1,380 guests. During Grease, it never felt like that many people were watching separately. It felt like one audience.

Columbus the Musical runs alongside Grease in the Royal Theater schedule. The two shows are very different in tone: Grease is a crowd-pleasing known quantity while Columbus is an original Royal Caribbean comedy in the spirit of Spamalot that rewards audiences willing to go along with something more absurdist. Both are worth attending on a Harmony sailing, but Grease is the one that guests consistently cite as the theatrical highlight of the week across every review platform I looked at.

Cast and staging

Consistent praise across Cruise Critic reviews points to the casting quality as the primary reason the show worked so reliably. The lead performers across multiple years of the production were consistently strong, the choreography matched the energy of the source material, and the costumes and set design gave the show the visual weight a full Broadway production requires. Family Travel Gurus reviewed it and described it as the best Broadway production they had seen across multiple Royal Caribbean ships, and that perspective is echoed widely.

Grease ran on Harmony of the Seas before the license was retired in 2025

As of late 2025 Grease has been replaced by Voices on Harmony, an original Royal Caribbean production that debuted on Wonder of the Seas. The transition is ongoing and it is not yet clear what the permanent replacement show will be ahead of the ship's 2026 amplification. For anyone who sailed Harmony when Grease was running, it was a show worth remembering.

If you are sailing Harmony now, check the current show schedule in the Royal Caribbean app before you board. Voices is the current replacement and is worth seeing on its own terms even if Grease is no longer available.
